Personal Achievement Badges

Personal Achievement Badges let youth build skills and knowledge in areas that genuinely interest them. They are an opportunity to try something new, set achievable goals, and have that growth recognized through Scouting.

Badges are usually pursued individually outside weekly meetings. They are encouraged but not required as part of the core program, and are available to Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers.

What families need to know

Uniforms and practical notes

The group supplies each youth’s neckerchief and slide. Remaining uniform pieces are purchased by families through the Scout Shop.

Visit the Scout Shop
Beaver uniform

Vest, hat, neckerchief and slide. The group provides the neckerchief and slide. Missing pieces from a returning youth’s uniform should be replaced.

Cub uniform

Cub shirt, neckerchief and slide. The group provides the neckerchief and slide. Activity shirts, hats and personal Jungle program maps are optional.

Indoor footwear and the hall

Beavers need labelled, clean indoor running shoes at every meeting. All outdoor footwear—including parents’—must be removed at the Amherstview Community Hall entrance. Families are expected to help keep meeting spaces clean and in good repair.

Email and ScoutsTracker

The group sends most notices electronically. Keep your contact information current and check ScoutsTracker for schedules, activity information, forms and your child’s progress. Ask Hawkeye if you need login help.

Refunds and cancelled events

Registration refunds are handled by Scouts Canada, not by the local group. When a paid event is cancelled because of weather or circumstances outside the group’s control, the team will try to refund event costs.

Respect our Scouters and Code of Conduct

All of our Scouters are volunteers, lending their time and talents to make Scouting a fun and memorable learning experience. Every section takes part in the group Code of Conduct. Beavers add their handprints to a large copy displayed at the hall as a reminder. Cubs, Scouts and Venturers, together with their parents or guardians, sign a hard-copy Code of Conduct at their first meeting.

Parent participation

Outings depend on volunteer help

Off-site activities and overnight camps require significant adult supervision. Events may have to be cancelled when there are not enough volunteers. Parents are encouraged to help with at least one special activity and can speak with their child’s Scouters about joining the team.

Questions parents often ask

For a question specific to your child or section, please email the group.

What ages can join 1st Amherstview / Bath Scouts?

Beavers are for ages 5–7, Cubs for ages 8–10, Scouts for ages 11–14 and Venturers for ages 15–17. The group currently offers these four sections.

Where and when do meetings happen?

Beavers meet Mondays at Amherstview Community Hall. Cubs and Scouts meet Thursdays at St. John’s Hall in Bath. Venturers meet one or two times a month, with times shared by the group.

What does registration cost?

Scouts Canada registration is $295 CAD for each current section. Local group dues are separate: Beavers are $1 per week, Cubs are $57 for the year, and Scouts are $2 per week for 38 scheduled meetings. Camps and special events can cost extra.

What uniform does my child need?

The group provides the neckerchief and slide. Families purchase the remaining uniform pieces through Scout Shop. The parent information section has uniform notes and badge-placement guides.

Are Scouters volunteers?

Yes. Our Scouters and committee members are volunteers. Extra help from parents makes outings, camps and special activities possible.

Can we visit before registering?

Email the group before attending. A volunteer can confirm whether there is room in the section and whether the next meeting is suitable for a visit.

Can the group help with accessibility or accommodations?

Yes. Contact the group before the meeting to discuss what would help your child participate. Activities and locations vary, so advance notice helps the volunteer team plan.

What happens if a meeting or paid event is cancelled?

Regular schedule changes are shared by email and ScoutsTracker. If a paid event is cancelled, the group will explain whether costs can be refunded. Scouts Canada handles registration refunds separately.

How are photos used?

Public captions do not identify youth. Families can review the photo policy or email the group to request that a website photo be reviewed or removed.

How do I register or ask a question?

Use MyScouts to register, or email 1st.ab.scouting@gmail.com for help finding the right section.
